About Axion Drift
Helping Malaysian Retailers Make Sense of Shelf Data
We work with operations teams to frame what shelf insight can realistically deliver — before anyone buys hardware or licences.

Where Axion Drift Started
Axion Drift began in Kuala Lumpur after a few years working alongside retail operations leads who kept getting sold on shelf-analytics platforms without a clear picture of what those platforms would actually do in their stores. The conversations kept circling the same point: before you install anything, you need to understand what the camera can see, what it cannot, and what that means for day-to-day operations.
We started the practice to fill that gap — an independent, vendor-neutral advisory that helps operations teams scope shelf insight honestly. We have worked with supermarket operators, convenience chain managers, and pharmacy retail groups across the Klang Valley and beyond.
Our work is scoped to products and shelves. We do not supply surveillance tools, track individuals, or engage with systems that profile shoppers. That boundary is stated plainly in every engagement we take on.
Our Mission
Practical Insight Over Promises
The shelf analytics space is full of vendor pitches that overstate what camera-based systems can deliver. Our mission is to give operations leads a clear, honest picture so they can make decisions with real information rather than sales materials.
Clarity on scope
We map what a shelf-insight system would and would not observe in your specific store format.
Vendor-neutral position
We have no financial relationship with any platform provider. Our recommendations follow your needs, not a sales target.
Operations-first thinking
Every deliverable is written for the people who run stores, not for a boardroom presentation.
The People
Our Core Team
Ahmad Mazlan
Lead Advisory Consultant
Ahmad has spent over a decade in retail operations across the Klang Valley and brings a store-floor perspective to every scoping engagement.
Siti Tan
Computer Vision Specialist
Siti focuses on the technical side of shelf-insight systems — accuracy testing, camera placement, and what each tool actually measures versus what it claims.
Rajan Kumar
Operations & Rollout Advisor
Rajan works with multi-store operators on phased implementation, helping teams standardise setup and build internal capacity for ongoing shelf monitoring.
How We Work
Standards We Hold to in Every Engagement
Privacy by Default
Every recommendation is checked against PDPA requirements and our own commitment to product-only scope. We will flag any system that strays from that boundary.
Documented Deliverables
Every engagement ends with a written output — a summary, a plan, or a standards document — so your team has something concrete to refer to and act on.
Independent Position
We hold no reseller agreements and receive no referral fees from technology vendors. That independence is central to the value we provide.
Accuracy-First Evaluation
When assessing shelf-insight tools, we evaluate measurement accuracy under real store conditions — not laboratory benchmarks or vendor demo environments.
Staff-Ready Guidance
Rollout recommendations include practical staff guidance — written for the people who use the system daily, not just for IT or management.
Scoped Honestly
We tell clients when shelf analytics is not the right fit for their current situation. That saves resource and builds a more useful working relationship over time.
Our Expertise
Retail Shelf Insight in the Malaysian Market
The Malaysian retail sector spans a wide range of formats — from neighbourhood sundry shops and convenience chains to large-format hypermarkets and specialty pharmacy groups. Shelf conditions, supply chain rhythms, and staff workflows differ considerably across these formats. Shelf insight tooling that performs well in one context can deliver unreliable results in another.
Axion Drift brings direct operational knowledge of the local retail environment to every engagement. We understand where camera placement is practical and where it is not, which stock patterns are consistent enough to train a recognition model, and what the realistic data cadence looks like for a store of a given size and category mix.
Our advisory work sits at the intersection of operations planning and computer vision capability. We are not a technology integrator. We are an informed, independent voice that helps operations leads ask the right questions before they commit budget to a shelf-analytics deployment.
Retailers we work with tend to be at an early stage of exploring shelf-insight tools, or have had a first experience with a vendor and want a clearer view of what to do next. We meet clients where they are and work within their pace and internal capacity.
